We spent years on Puerto Rico's eastern side - I patrolled its beaches for sea-turtle nests, learned which food kiosks are worth the line, and which beaches the tour buses never find. This is that island: no passport, no 14-hour flight, just a direct flight, a US ID and a week where every stop has a story attached. You get the Puerto Rico locals get, at a pace kids can keep.

BROAD ON PURPOSE - EXACT DATES + ORDER SET WITH THE GROUPARRIVAL
Land in San Juan, settle into our base, first group dinner - plans and introductions over mofongo.
OLD SAN JUAN
Cobblestones, forts and shaved ice. The kids storm El Morro's lawns with kites; the adults get the history.
EL YUNQUE
The only tropical rainforest in the US Forest System - waterfall swims and an easy summit for small legs.
BIO BAY
Night kayaks on a bioluminescent bay - the water glows where you paddle. The trip's guaranteed core memory.
EAST SIDE
My old backyard: the beaches, the food kiosks, and the turtle-nesting sands I used to patrol.
FLEX DAY
Culebra ferry for Flamenco Beach, or a lazy pool-and-hammock day. The group decides.
DEPARTURE
